New 2018 Ford Expedition eight-seater coming to Dubai23 Oct 2017
Replacing the current, ageing Expedition that sits on a platform dating back to a 2003 pick-up truck (and which starts in the UAE from AED165,000), the all-new model is based on the latest aluminium-intensive F-150.
With a carried over 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine tuned to deliver a bit more power for a 400bhp total, and a 10-speed transmission replacing the old six-speed automatic, the 2018 Expedition claims best in class towing capability — Ford says this thing can two more than 4,200kg tonnes, which is about a 40kg improvement over the outgoing Expedition.
The other big deal is the weight saving thanks to the aluminum body, which helps cut some 140kg in the 2018 model.
Ford says in total 40 new features were added to the car, including a host of driver-assistance technologies like collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping.
Optionally you can also have a newly available electronic limited-slip differential if you take your family off-roading or need to get across some rough stuff every now and again.
Introduced 20 years ago, the Expedition is currently America’s best-selling full-size SUV, produced in Kentucky with the domestic market in mind.
In the Middle East however full-size SUVs are all the rage, particularly in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. To entice buyers as their main family vehicle, the 2018 Expedition is loaded with wireless charging options (there are integrated charging pads in the front console), rear seat entertainment, four 12-bolt power points and six USB ports (plus a 110-volt wall plug), and even an available 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.
