A Record 13 Global Launches and 40 Regional Premiers Places Dubai International Motor Show at the Pinnacle of the Automotive Industry; UAE Auto Market to Return to Double Digit Growth Inside Two Years Predict Industry Experts
The 10th anniversary Dubai International Motor Show is attracting the attention of the motoring world with a high octane edition, highlighting its position as the key industry barometer for the Middle East region.
In the face of challenging global market conditions, which has witnessed the global scaling down of automotive shows around the world, the Dubai International Motor Show will welcome over 200 companies with an unprecedented 13 exclusive global launches and a staggering 40 regional premieres to be announced during the five day show.
Organised by Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) since its inception, the biennial Dubai International Motor Show celebrates its 10th Anniversary and will run from 16 - 20 December 2009 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC).
"Global launches are big news for any international motor show and to host a record 13 is testament to the strategic importance of the Dubai International Motor Show to the industry especially in today's climate," said Helal Saeed Almarri, CEO, DWTC. "While this year has proved challenging for all companies, it is notable that the Dubai International Motor Show is bucking the international trend as the global industry looks to us to showcase their best in class to the region and to the world." Business Monitor International predicts that over the long-term the UAE market will rebound strongly, with double-digit growth in sales expected to resume from 2011.
The report adds that by 2013, the UAE automotive market will have reached around 570,000 vehicle sales per year, a 57 percent increase over 2008.
Models making their worldwide debuts at this year's show are the Kepler Motors' ‘Motion' supercar, Mercedes-Benz G-Class Geländewagen Edition '79 and the Renault GCC Fluence.
Adding further excitement, concept cars from BMW, General Motors, Hyundai and Toyota will be showcased, as well as a host of tuning and modification programmes from companies including, Brabus, FAB Design, Hamman, LRC Racing Engineering, PPI and Vorsteiner.
Manufacturers including Audi, BMW, Fiat, Ford, General Motors, Hyundai, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, Toyota and Volkswagen are also preparing to wow curious motoring fans with regional premiers.
Visitors will also be able to experience first-hand arguably the world's most expensive production car from Mantide, which is valued at US$ 2 million and showing for the first time in the Middle East. Also at the show is the world's fastest production car, the SSC Ultimate Aero which can reach a top speed of 257.41 mph.
The regional market is a key growth area for international motoring manufacturers, from the premium luxury vehicles to the more compact, fuel efficient cars for the economy-conscious consumer.
This latter segment is forecast to be one of the fastest growing in the GCC over the medium term, not least because of the sizeable 16 - 31 age group demographic in the region who begin their driving careers in more affordable cars. According to Business Monitor International, the compact car is the fastest-growing segment in the UAE, displacing the SUVs.
This forecast is being substantiated by the growing number of Far Eastern motor manufacturers with expertise in affordable compact cars participating at this year's show. Highlighting this development, companies including GoNow, Kia, Hyundai, Luxgen and Nissan will all have a big presence in Dubai.
The inaugural Sustainable Mobility Forum taking place this year leverages the Dubai International Motor Show's regional position to help bring the future of mobility debate to the fore. This panel discussion brings together leading manufacturers, transport authorities and environmental experts to examine the issues of sustainable transport and its increasing importance for the Middle East region.
Panellists include Simon Firth, Managing Director, Al-Futtaim Motors; Dr. Thomas Becker, Head of Government Affairs, BMW; Noaman Al Saleh, CSR & Media Relations Manager, ENOC Group; Steve Clarke, VP Global Vehicle Engineering, General Motors; Hussain Al Banna, Director of Traffic and Roads, RTA and Maria Sillanpaa, Founding Director, Sustainable Advisory Group.
The Green Trail Adventure Quest, a fun-filled trail, supported by platinum sponsor ENOC, takes younger visitors through the motor show to find the green and environmentally-friendly highlights on exhibitors' stands and recognises the many industry innovations and technological advances being made to protect the future.
A number of manufacturers will also be bringing the latest sustainable cars to compliment these features including BMW's Active Hybrid 7 & the X6, General Motors' Volt, Lexus' LS600hL, the S400 from Mercedes-Benz and the 1/X from Toyota.
The Dubai International Motor Show has always experienced a high level of sales activity, with many exclusive show offers and this year is no exception. Visitors will be able to take advantage of some spectacular discounts and access to instant financing at the show. Thanks to platinum sponsor Al Hilal Bank, a one-hour Walk In Drive Out financing service will make buying a new car a great deal easier than it has been for some time.
Visitors also have a great chance to leave the Dubai International Motor Show with the car of their dreams. The Mega Car Prize Draw, in celebration of the show's 10th anniversary, includes a selection of 6 cars to be won valued at more than AED 1.5 million. The Dubai International Motor Show runs in conjunction with the inaugural Outdoor Adventure Dubai 2009, the UAE's only complete outdoor adventure and sporting event. The co-location of the two events offers a natural synergy for visitors looking to find the latest in the motoring industry, while exploring products and equipment for a wide variety of outdoor land and water activities.
